How to Find Your House With Instant Street View

If you’re looking for the fastest way to find your house (or any location) on Google Street View, check out Instant Street View. It’s a third-party website that allows you to type any address into a search field to instantly view that location. Use Instant Street View on a desktop browser or on the web browser on your mobile device.

How to Use Street View in Google Maps

The Instant Street View site is great if you want to immediately view a specific location, but if you’re on Google Maps, you can also switch to Street View.

Use your mouse or touchscreen to change direction, and use the arrows on the street to move backward, forward, or sideways.

Use Street View on Mobile Devices

The Google Maps app is separate from the Google Street View app. If you have an Android device, download the official Google Street View app from Google Play. Street View was once built into the Google Maps app, but now there’s a separate iOS Google Street View app you can download. You can also choose the picture in the upper-left corner to view photos of the location.

What If I Still Can’t Find My House?

So, you entered your home address and saw no results. Now what? The 360-degree imagery closest to the location appears at the bottom of the screen. Tap the image to see it in full-screen mode. (If you swipe up, more images from other nearby locations appear. You can select any of those images as well.) Use the arrows on the street to navigate around the location. Drag your finger across the screen for a 360-degree view of the images. Most major urban areas, particularly in the U.S., have been mapped on Street View, but that doesn’t mean that every house, road, or building will show up when you search for it. Some rural areas are still being mapped. You can request to edit road segments on Google Maps to suggest a new location be reviewed and possibly added. Google updates imagery regularly, especially in major cities, and depending on where you live or what location you’re looking at, imagery may be old and scheduled for an update to better reflect its current condition. Check back in a few months or so to see if your house or a particular address has been added to Street View.
